trouble with FAFSA

I’ve been having the toughest time trying to decide on a school these past few weeks, and finally when I do decide on a school choice, Federal Student Aid comes along and rips my plans right out from under me. So, instead of going to both Ivy Tech, and Indiana Tech, at the same time, I have to attend Ivy Tech first, and then once I graduate from Ivy Tech, then go for my Bachelors at Indiana Tech, which I suppose is still ok, I was just hoping to attend both colleges to get things done faster, but, those are FAFSA rules not mine.

I didn’t know this until just yesterday, don’t know why anyone didn’t tell me earlier but anyways, FAFSA only sends Federal Aid to one school per year, so I can still attend Indiana Tech, just not until I get done at Ivy Tech. It just means I’m going to have to goto school for longer then I expected thats all.

Anyway, my first class starts May 21st. I’m taking

this summer. This is the same class I had with that Ben Stonebreaker guy from Ft Wayne, but I have a different instructor this time, and now that class is taught online in MS Access 2003, so I should do much better this time around, but since its an online class, I won’t have to worry about a notetaker or anything like that until the fall.

Before Fall classes start, I’m supposed to meet with the Dean of students, who is also in charge of disability accommodations. Him and I will sit down before class starts, and discuss what kind of accommodations I need.. I already mentioned to him that I’ll need a notetaker for every on-campus class I take, and I also plan on mentioning about a CCTV and Zoomtext, otherwise, I think thats it. They don’t really need to blow anything up for me, because if they have a CCTV available for me to use on-campus, then that will be enough. He said some of that Ivy Tech provides, other parts Voc rehab provides, and the two places work together to make sure my needs are met before class starts. I’m still skeptical, its like I was telling Susan the other day “I’ll believe it when I see it”…

Anyway, assuming all of that goes as planned, and by some miracle I do pass all my classes, I’ll graduate from Ivy Tech in June 2008.

Then, again, because of how FAFSA works, I won’t be able to start at Indiana Tech for my Bachelors until the Fall of 2008, because I’ll have to wait until Indiana Tech gets the money from the 2008-2009 form, which I will fill out for Indiana Tech in March of 2008, but the money won’t be there for me to take classes at the other school until Fall. Just another one of those loopholes I have to deal with.

Anyway, according to my counselor, she’ll know more when I actually graduate from Ivy Tech, but once I get my AAS, it’ll only take me 2 additional years to get my Bachelors, so if everything goes as expected, which I’m sure it will, I’ll graduate with a Bachelors in Mgmt of Data Communications by June 2010. That doesn’t sound too bad, eh?..

so I take 1 class this summer, and in the fall I’ll have my choice rather to take 3 and 3, or 4 and 2, but then once thats done, then when I start at Indiana Tech, the way their classes are setup, I take 4 classes per semester, one day a week, which is how their adult program works, so I’ll take some of those online, others at the campus there in Warsaw, which she said will only take me 2 additional years, assuming I keep my grades up that is, which I’m sure I will as long as they provide disability assistance. In fact, I have no doubts I’ll get any less then a B in any of my classes if disability assistance is truely met like they promise.

Anyway 2010 isn’t that long at all, and Indiana Tech and Ivy Tech are both transferrable to IPFW, Purdue, or any of the other big universities, so they are accredidted. In fact, my dad was saying my brother is taking his Masters at Indiana Tech, which I could do too after 2010 if I wanted to, but I think a Bachelors is good enough. I don’t want to be rich or anything, all I ever wanted was to get my Degree.. Rather I can find a job with a Bachelors degree, or not, doesn’t matter to me, because the way I look at it, no matter how good, or bad, the job market is right now, if I don’t have a degree, at least a Bachelors, then I don’t have a chance at all of finding anything I can do.. At least if I get my Associates, and then on to my Bachelors, at least I have a fighting chance, ya know what I’m saying? Without a degree, my resume is in the trash before I even get to that interview. Least with a degree I have a fighting chance.

I am also going to meet with Combined Community Services this week, to look into doing some Volunteer work here in Warsaw, possibly in Computers, or wherever they need me. Volunteer work will look good on my resume, as well as gives me a chance to do something good for the Community.

…and you thought i was just going to sit on my Ass and collect Social Security didn’t cha? HA!! NOT!!! hehe  Trust me,  Social Security is just so I can goto school and change careers without starving to death in the process. The only sitting on my ass I’ll be doing is at the Computer labs in school doing my homework and lab assignments.

Have a good week everyone.
