After holiday Hiatus
Well, after a long semester, and a short holiday, my short hiatus before spring semester, is coming to a close. This semester, I am taking: Intro to Public Speaking, Network Fundamentals, and Logic and Documentation. Logic & Doc has to do with all those stupid flowcharts again, uh boy. Intro to Public Speaking should be interesting. That’s my only on-campus class so far, but I am looking forward to it, even though it will be a hard course for me, because I’ll get a chance to talk to people. I get so bored sitting at home by myself all day, ya know? The rest of my courses up to now have been online. I thought Network Fundamentals was going to be easy, until I noticed we’ll have to take the CompTIA Network+ exam. ugh! From what I understand, Network+ is really hard. The first chapter goes into the extent of what I know; routers, switches, hubs, different types of networks (like star, token, ring, mesh, etc) chapters 2-15 cover stuff I don’t know. well I think its chapter 4 and 5 that cover the IP subsystem, private vs public addressing, DHCP, and all that, but the rest of it is going to be a complete blur to me, but it is a subject I’m interested in, so it shouldn’t be so bad I am hoping. Someone online told me the textbook I’m using doesn’t cover what NAT routing is. That topology I am already familar with, but it surprises me the CompTIA book doesn’t cover it if its on their exam. I mean, NAT is the main difference between a router and a switch, which alot of people don’t realize, and that NAT is more important then Norton Internet Security.
This will be my LAST semester for graduation, so sometime this semester, I’ll have to figure out how to apply for graduation. I’m sure I have to purchase a cap and gown from the bookstore, and I think there’s a form I fill out to apply for graduation, but I don’t know all that detailed stuff yet. One semester left and I’ll have my Associates, woohoo!!
Right now, I’m still tossing around the idea of changing majors after I finish my Associates. Of course, my friends at Ivy Tech want me to stay on for another 2 years and go for a psychology degree, or something, for a Career as a Disabilities coordinator, but if I do decide to go that route, I’ll go someplace else besides Ivy Tech, because as many Accommodation problems I’ve had there over the years, Ivy Tech is the last place I want to spend another 2 years at.
I am excited about this coming February though, I am going to Indianapolis for Ivy Tech’s “Legislative Day” on February 19th. From what I understand, we are going to sit in on a State Legislation meeting, at the Indiana State House. That should be most fun. I always liked Government in High School, and I’m still considering signing up for Student Government. I’m just thinking, since I graduate in June, I won’t be there long enough to get involved in Student Government all that much, but it would be something fun to do none the less. I get so bored sitting at home.
I wanted to be a Phi Theta Kappa, member too, ya know the college honor society, but I don’t have a high enough GPA to do that. I mean, yeah it would have been nice to repeat all my past courses and get involved in that, but right now after everything thats happened, I’m just so happy to finally be graduating, and am looking forward to getting that undergraduate degree next.
