The Coburn Blog

Well, my step-dad has been in the hospital for the last month, and we’re really worried he’s not going to make it. He’s supposed to get out of the hospital today, but he’ll need round the clock care for sure.

Because of this, my mom and family have been trying to convince me to move back to Fort Wayne, since I am now single,  so during my last week of summer vacation, I decided to stay at my moms to visit my step-dad in the hospital, and to go apartment hunting.   My sister called around to see how much rent is at some places, but as low as my income is, my best bet is to get into government apartment housing for the time being.  Those places don’t tell you how much rent is over the phone because your rent is based on income.  Because my step-dad was in the hospital, mom didn’t have time to take me around apartment hunting filling out applications. I expected to stay just a couple days, but ended up spending the whole week in New Haven, which was fine except that I needed to come back to Warsaw to start the Fall semester.

Some reasons I’m considering moving to Fort Wayne, public transportation is cheaper there, and I can get a much nicer apartment in Fort Wayne then what I can in Warsaw.  High speed internet is also cheaper there.  When I spent the week with my mom, I thought back to the complaint someone on this blog had towards me about why I don’t switch back to dialup internet.  Well, I learned this week at my moms house WHY.    I don’t care if dialup internet was FREE, in fact it should be how darn slow it is, I would NEVER go back to dialup ever again, that was awful..   I couldn’t get on facebook at all,  my blog at all, myspace would take an easy 20 minutes just to download the HTML part of the page, I couldn’t get on the ivy tech website at all, too many graphics, plus it would disconnect every 10 minutes, then you’d have to start the page load all over again when the connection is reestablished.  I got so frustrated with it, that I just stayed off the computer for the whole week.  I figured that was better then messing around with 20+ minute page loads.  My mom actually agreed with me on that, she said that’s why her and Ron never get on the internet there in New Haven, because its just too slow.  One of these days, I’m going to bring over all the XP updates they need, because they don’t even have XP Service Pack 1 installed, they can’t get any of XP updates installed because of that crappy dialup..   You commenters out there wonder why I don’t switch back to dialup?  THAT’s why!!   especially being an IT major, there is just no way I could function on dialup.

Anyway, while I was in Fort Wayne apartment hunting, I kept thinking, it would be really awesome to live at Canterbury Green apartments, where my cousin Jennie and Rod live,  but they wanted $600 a month for those apartments, not including utilities. The problem with that, is rent alone would be more then what I get on Disability, so that won’t work.  I’m hoping by October or November the rent will go down some, but we’ll see how it goes.  They also have a Singles group there, which would give me something to do away from the Computer on my Friday and Saturday nights I suppose.  I don’t have any desire to get involved in a relationship ever again, for 2 strikes was enough for me, but it would give me something to do besides messing around on the Computer for the weekends.

So I don’t know, I’d like to move back to Fort Wayne, I just like my space away from my family. I love them very much don’t get me wrong, I just don’t care for family talking bad about each other behind their backs, I don’t think its right to do that against other family members.  See, I am the kind of person who likes to think the best about my family, so I would rather not know about the bad things, then to be put in the middle of the grape vine all the time, ya know what i mean?
