Leadership Academy
Yesterday, I received some wonderful news in my email. I was accepted into the SLA Leadership Academy for the 2007-2008 school year.
I’m not totally sure what the Leadership Academy is either, but I’ll find out more about it on Sep 21st, when I attend the kickoff ceremony in South Bend. I do know its about identifying and developing Leadership quality skills. I’ll be spending time with the Faculty, and getting to know more on the history of Ivy Tech.
There are several seminar’s I have to attend throughout the state. Indianapolis, Ft Wayne, Terra Haute, a different seminar about once a month from September thru June, all pretty much one day trips, except for the Indianapolis seminar on capstone, which will be an overnight stay at a hotel somewhere. Ivy Tech arranges the transportation, along with the hotel stay.
I’ll just have to be sure I know my mobility training well enough, to be able to teach it to other people that I will have to go with. I’ll have to teach them the sighted guide routine and all that, which will be good practice for me I think.
Right now, I’m more worried about this CAAP test coming up in October. I have to score higher then the National Average, in order to qualify for graduation. CAAP is sorta like the SAT/ACT from what I understand. I’m nervous about it, because I will turn 37 on September 21st, approaching 40, and I haven’t taken a Math or English course in 15 years, so I don’t know how I’m going to manage to do that English and Algebra stuff.. I just wish I had a Tutor.
They offer some sample questions here but its really not something I can prepare for. Its kinda like the ACT and Compass tests from what I understand. Its just, what I am worried about, is scoring high enough to qualify for graduation… Its been 15 years since I’ve done any English, Science, and Mathmatics of any kind. Wish I had my nephews around here, I’m sure Ryan especially would be able to help me remember that stuff.
